Independent assessment

Independent assessment against agreed criteria

Evidence-based assessment of a system, site or supplier against a standard, a buyer’s code or a specification agreed in writing — with a clear BVS report.

Applications welcome

BVS issues an assessment report; a BVS attestation follows only when an independent review and decision confirm that the criteria are fulfilled. Your quotation states the criteria and edition, scope, sites, sampling, dates and issuer before you commit. How BVS delivers each service

Assessments

What BVS assesses

Management-system readiness

ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 requirements, before you apply for certification or ahead of a customer audit.

Findings only — no advice. Never shortens a later certification audit.

Food safety and HACCP

Codex HACCP principles, ISO 22000 requirements or your customer’s food-safety code, at one site or across lines.

Report of evidence and findings; attestation where the criteria are fulfilled.

Buyer code or supplier assessment

Commissioned by a buyer or a supplier against the buyer’s code of conduct, specification or checklist.

The criteria document is named in the quotation.

Factory and process inspection

Products, lots, processes or facilities against an agreed checklist or specification.

Inspections required by law or a regulator only where the required authorisation is in place.

What you receive

A report you can rely on

  • Criteria and edition, scope, sites and exclusions
  • Sampling method, dates and assessment team
  • Each finding: criterion, evidence examined, finding and grade
  • Conclusion and limitations — stated plainly
  • Independent review before release

BVS attestation

A one-page statement that, on the dates assessed, the organisation was found to conform to the named criteria for the stated scope and sites. Issued only after an independent review and decision, valid for a stated period and verifiable at bvscert.com/verify.

Issued by BVS; not a management-system or product certificate and not issued under accreditation.

How it works

Five steps, all in writing

  1. Agree the criteria and scope — standard or code, edition, sites, sampling and dates in the quotation.
  2. Assess on site — records, interviews and observation across shifts.
  3. Report — findings as facts, with evidence and limitations.
  4. Independent review — by a person who was not on the assessment.
  5. Attestation, where earned — only when the criteria are fulfilled.

BVS assesses and reports. It does not design, write or implement your system, and its reports do not advise on how to close findings.

Questions

Is an assessment report a certificate?

No. It records the evidence examined and the findings against the stated criteria on the dates shown. A BVS attestation is issued only where an independent review and decision confirm that the criteria are fulfilled.

Is the assessment issued under accreditation?

No. Reports and attestations are issued by BVS. If your buyer requires an accredited certificate, tell us and BVS will confirm in writing whether and how that requirement can be met before you commit.

Can an assessment be followed by certification?

Yes, as a separate application. A pre-assessment never shortens or replaces a certification audit, and BVS does not advise on how to close findings.

Who provides the standard or code?

You do, or it is a public document. Criteria and their edition are named in the quotation.
